Florida making 'remarkable' progress in education, but must do more, Sun-Sentinel

Florida has made solid gains when it comes to boosting achievement in elementary school. But it needs to do more to get students out of high school and then successfully through college, according to a new report by the Southern Regional Education Board.

Tuition break for grad students doesn't come at locals' expense, Tampa Tribune

It seemed a slight to Floridians when the University of South Florida trustees recently lowered tuition rates for out-of-state graduate students while increasing tuition for state students.

Moreover, the tuition increases came as USF tightened admissions on the undergraduate level in response to the state budget crisis.

But Florida residents should temper their anger.

State budget cuts lead to increased SFCC tuition, Independent Florida Alligator

SFCC’s Board of Trustees approved a budget plan last week that will raise tuition 6 percent and cut $3 million in spending.President Jackson Sasser said the changes result from an 11 percent cut in state funding, including the additional 4 percent slash approved by Gov. Charlie Crist on June 12.

Board of Governers discusses new model for enrollment funding, Independent Florida Alligator

The Florida Board of Governors discussed a new model for enrollment funding at its June 19 meeting, and the model could benefit UF if implemented in the coming years.The current model determines funding for universities based on the budget from the previous year plus the number of additional students admitted, said Nate Johnson, the board’s executive director of planning and analysis.

Florida A&M University's Probation Lifted, Black College Wire
