House Speaker Rubio lands $69,000 job at FIU, Orlando Sentinel

Departing House Speaker Marco Rubio stands to rake in $69,000 over the next nine months by teaching a couple of courses at Florida International University in his home turf of Miami.

FIU announced today that Rubio will teach a course in the fall titled "Florida Politics and the 2008 Election" alongside Dario Moreno, a political science professor.

Florida education budget cuts still loom, Associated Content

MIAMI -- The Board of Trustees at Florida International University agreed upon measures to cut 25 programs - majors included - as well as lay off over 200 employees.

On June 12, a number of degrees including dance, engineering and speech pathology were eliminated and will no longer be included within FIU's roster of programs in three years.

Budget gap forces FIU to cut programs, staff, South Florida Business Journal

Florida International University's board of directors has approved staff reductions and the closure of 25 academic programs and centers in order to bridge a $32 million budget gap.

In an e-mail to the university community, FIU President Modesto A. Maidique said the changes would take place over the next three years.
